Successful Business Does Process, Form, and Strategy make a business successful? The 60's and 70's ADL enjoyed a pre-emptive market share originating from the late 1800's, and became the leader of a growing management consulting practice during 60's and 70's. By the end of the 70's and early 80's they lost their dominant position as the market grew, and they continued to slide as the success of new companies tooled with contemporary technologies and skills, identifiable products, and a singular image gained market strength. ADL's pride was in the freshness of approach to each case, the "Eureka" kind of solutions, and no repetitive job undertaking. Work at ADL was problem oriented, technically based and highly customized. However, the company identity was fragmented and confused and did not have a formal organizational structure. A team of 5-15 people made a unit. There were 2-4 units per section and around 40 sections with $5-10m in revenues for each section. In 1954 ADL attempted to form into 7 divisions but this resulted in fighting over leads and capital resources. ADL's work force was highly innovative, with high morale and a broad range of freedom in work. There was no career ladder within the organization and titles meant little as new jobs allowed for a new hierarchical structure. Strengths and competitive forces during 80's The market in the 70's had started growing from $2b to $40b, and there were a lot of new entrants. As opposed to ADL, they focused on specific areas of management consulting and specialized in a few particular areas. The new entrants also had an effect of segmenting the market into core functional components. ADL was a broad-based non-specific product company, which allowed for capturing many business problems that arose as markets evolved. ADL enjoyed a very strong past, a vast knowledge base and a good R&D facility. The internal organization of company was totally flat which initially worked to their advantage. One major strength was the return of LaMantia to ADL as president, and the redeployment of his process thinking. Main elements of new organization structure ADL's new structure allowed for vertical development and functional orientation. There were 7 directorates divided into three major businesses. Five of them were related to management consulting and were geographically structured. Inside of each directorate were three levels - director, senior consultant and consultant. The entire company structure was tied together with 7 common business processes. Each case would primarily belong to one directorate but would encompass different business processes, making it a matrix-type structure. The idea in creating a business organization structure was to have more accountability, identify specify goals and duties and improve resource allocation. Overhauling the financial area, as well as tightening the planning, budgeting system, and accounting system were additional initiatives implemented. Core business Providing experienced and knowledgeable people to solve company problems was ADL's core business. ADL sold processes focused services ranging from strategies, customer service, supply chain management, information technology, manufacturing, finances, organization and innovation. It concentrated on various industries like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, health-care, automation and telecom. Its three core business units were management consulting (MC), environment and health services (EHS) and technology and product development (TDP). Process thinking & strategy fit Process thinking is identifying, categorizing, and prioritizing business functions, and linking the functions through their informational needs. A strategy is making use of, creating, modifying and tailoring the functionalities to achieve a certain goal. ADL divided its entire operations into 7 processes. The processes fit the ADL strategy by allowing the company to focus on its client relationships, HR and finances and by facilitating its implementation, while costing the effort in terms of its returns. The knowledge of a common process amongst functionality allows continuity and repeatability with skill-sets and identifiable goals. Strategic options for ADL, Recommendation The integrating strategies include a unified company image, cross selling and integration of the three business units, making the three business units into separate sister concerns, developing a cross-business synergy, product, and practice, and single a company strategy - a global industry practice. ADL's strength lies in the vast and varied knowledge, which can be utilized across the three different business units. ADL should position itself as a company with a brand name identity, providing system-wide, varied and integrated solutions, and initiate processes for the cross selling and integration of its three business units.

This plan was presented to the public as REGO and would not only make the government better but also help the U.S eliminate its debts. REGO called for many cuts and losses that politicians and critics did not agree with. In fact many politicians called the proposed savings ridiculous and exaggerated but nonetheless agreed to help. REGO included ideas such as reducing the federal bureaucracy by twelve percent, improving the ability of the social security administration to investigate fraud, eliminating wasteful programs, and having agencies submit a five year budget plan. These proposals, which seemed fairly risky at first, turned out to be a success. For example by improving the abilities of the social security administration, the administration was allowed to investigate wrongful issuance of checks. By doing this fraud was eliminated in the administration and the money could be used towards decreasing the debt crisis. REGO also called to downsize the government by eliminating many federal jobs. Many citizens did not agree with this because some would know people or would be in risk of getting laid off by the government but when taking into accountability that the federal government is the biggest employer in the U.S, it made a lot of sense. By REGO eliminating federal governments employees, the money was used towards the debt as well. REGO wasnt a plan that was highly thought of at first but after the first year it was called a success. Forsyth Technical Community College is a preparatory type of institution that prepares ESL students to easily engage in the community, and bring their language skills to the required standard usage of English within the community. Enrollment into Forsyth Technical Community College is non-selective with incoming students being enrolled into different levels ranging from beginner to high intermediate. Enrolment using an in-house placement test is a priority, implying that students advance to upper levels when they improve their English language skills at that specific level. The institution set speciï ¬ c learning objectives for each level which were assessed by in-house tests and which teachers were required to teach towards. One set of objectives related speciï ¬ cally to the teaching of grammar. The institution has two fully equipped writing labs and a small corner library at the main hall. The labs are equipped with fifteen computers with numerous software programs installed and the internet is accessible on each computer for the student use. Regular classrooms are arranged to accommodate 15-20 students and this ensures improved interaction between the teachers and students. The classrooms are carpeted and contain whiteboards, overhead projectors and a chair used by the teacher and students during presentations. All teachers working in the institution, including the participant of this report, teach full-time (20-25 hours per week). Students are mostly have Spanish as their first language. During the study, some students had recently arrived in the United States while others had been around for a period of time and they aged 25-35. The teaching context is a monolingual setting where all teachers are native speakers of English. The preparatory school does not have its own sy llabus and in-house textbooks and the teachers are encouraged to select textbooks and adapt to a syllabus that suits their students or teaching contexts to ensure the success of the teaching process. This is because a curriculum is often perceived by teachers as being fairly rigid. The participant teacher background Data on this report was collected through five non-participatory classroom observations. I refrain from naming the participant and restrict the following information to only assist readers in making sense of the specific features of the context to protect his anonymity. Prior to conducting this report I made a pre-observation interview with the instructor to see if he would be willing before formally requesting his participation as I felt that would provide an improved overall picture in order to determine the kinds of teaching beliefs he was mostly interested in and to what extent he put those beliefs into practice in L2 teaching. The Participant of this report was a 36 -year-old native English speaker with an overall experience of ESL of 7 to 10 years. He taught ESL classes at various levels from beginner to upper intermediate. He started his career at the elementary level for two years and then started teaching at the ESL adult-level for the last six years in programs which service adult refugee and continuing education populations. One of these factors is the need to keep up with the demand for our product within the marketplace. The second factor is actualizing a business that works as hard for its employees as hard as the employees have worked for the business. Our business has increased by two fold in the last 18 months, which means that we must create a new way of doing business. As a result of this growth, we had to revamp the financial system, which has actualized its contribution through showing up as time savings achieved through automation. As a result of implementing the financial system, we received our return on investment six months earlier than anticipated. How does it get any better than that? It is with the same dedication that the HRIS project is being given life and endorsed by the stakeholders, which support this project. Description As a result of this growth, we have just completed the transition of incorporating the financial system and it has been a smashing success. This new growth demands of us that we do business a little differently now. It is our intent through this project to improve the employees’ workplace and space in addition to addressing the changes that come about from expansion. There has been a marked and appreciable demand for our products over the last two years. As a result of this growth, we now require a better way of doing business. The HRIS project will take an outside and inside approach in order to create the space for transition and a better way of doing business. The approximate savings through this project would be actualized within the two quarters alone. Objective The objective for this project supports our goal of achieving a more robust production environment for our customers in addition to providing a better environment for future growth for our employees. It is our intent to support this project in the following ways: 1. Payroll will be automated and this will produce a faster and easier way for the employees to be reimbursed or to make changes to the auto pay options. 2. Our employees will be in a better position to pursue and create a career track for them that aligns with their own goals. 3. The HRIS process will allow for more transparency in hiring for those on the outside. 4. Potential employees will be able to see and apply for open positions. 5. Management will be in a better position to ensure that the potential applicants are well-qualified. 6. Additional funding now available from the implementation of the financial system can fund more research and projects to improve the workplace. Success Criteria or Expected Benefits The success criteria came from the various stakeholders and sponsors. The CEO of the company, Rory Genhardt, commissioned a project manager to spearhead the HRIS project. The project manager conducted several interviews of various stakeholders and sponsors in order to obtain measurable project objectives. The reports disseminated will include information gathered from the individual SMEs. It is this information that was used to present information to the stakeholders, sponsors and participants through reports, presentations, written, verbal and oral communications. The expert judgment provided by these various individuals was invaluable. They are outlined for the HRIS project as targets. Specifically identified from the various stakeholders of the expected benefits of the implementation of this project are the â€Å"recruiting capabilities† and â€Å"succession planning† for the CEO. Per the HR Director, â€Å"vacation and sick time and sick leave linked to attendance instead of years of services†, in addition to â€Å"tracking of certification and education requirements† would be a benefit from the implementation. The VP of Marketing would receive benefit from the â€Å"employee database and the e-forms†. The VP of Finance would be appreciative of the â€Å"payroll capabilities†. This proves true in the case of St. Augustine’s Confessions, where he specifies Plato’s good as God by personalizing the forms, Eros, sin, and recollection. Specifically, Augustine’s idea of â€Å"original sin,† forgetfulness and recollection follow the philosophy of Plato, bringing them into the â€Å"God realm,† rather leaving them in a figurative sense open for interpretation. In the Confessions, Augustine says that â€Å"the soul commits fornication when it is turned away from you and, apart from you, seeks such pure, clean things as it does not find except when it returns to you† (2.6.14). Here Augustine provides an overview of his idea of God: it is initially with God, because it must turn away, or forget, in order to leave God, but is left unsatisfied until it returns, or remembers. This is a direct use of Plato’s theory that the soul of man originally dwells with the forms in the realm of the â€Å"good,† then the soul forgets on earth what the â€Å"good† is, but spends life trying to remember. For both Plato and Augustine, the journey begins at birth. When a person is born, they possess both an original sin and an original innocence. Being born into the world, people are certainly corrupted by society and prone to sin, because in the eyes of Plato and Augustine, the body itself is corrupt and leads to sin. At the same time, though, man is born with â€Å"good† inside of them. The soul of humankind comes from God or from the â€Å"good,† and it has a recollection of the good of which it once knew. Augustine said of infancy that, â€Å"the sin that is in him you have not made†¦For in your sight, no man is clean of sin, not even the infant who has lived but a day upon earth† (1.7.11). So what is it about living a day on the earth that makes an infant sin, and what is it in a person that makes them turn away from sin? According to Plato, the body leads to sin. As with Plato, while a person becomes a sinner when they enter into the body, they have with in them an inherent, incorruptible good, the soul; only it forgets from what it came, thus turning away from the good. In the speech of Diotima, she says that love is giving birth to new ideas, bringing beauty in the presence of mortality. ‘Newly industrialised countries have been, and continue to be, the driving force of globalisation’ To what extent do you agree with this statement Globalisation can be seen as the increased flow of goods, services and information across countries, and it is driven by rapid technological growth and increased connectivity between countries of the world. It also establishes and maintains economic and political relations between these countries. Some of the factors that have affected globalisation include technological innovation as it had made transport and communication around the world easier, trade has also played an important role in encouraging globalisation. Trade between countries in the developed world and the developing world has specifically been the biggest driving force of globalisation. Newly industrialised countries or NIC’s are countries whose economies have not yet reached first world economic status but their economic growth are still increasing more than other developing countries. NIC’s are switching their current agriculture-based economy into a more industrialised, urban economy. Current NICs include China, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey. The average growth rate between these countries is approximately 7.6% compared to the world average of 3.7%. The first group of NIC’s came from the Asia area, they included Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. They called these the Asian Tigers. The Asian Tigers were notable for maintaining exceptionally high growth rates (in excess of 7% a year) and rapid industrialization between the early 1960s and 1990s. By the 21st century, all four have developed into advanced and high-income economies. There are several factors that make Newly Industrialised countries the driving force of globalisation. Firstly, most newly industrialised countries have a large population; this makes the countries more attractive for investment as these countries have lots of cheap labour. Therefore, these countries seem more attractive to TNC’s as they can make more profits when the cost of labour is cheap. A Transnational Corporation or a TNC is a privately owned company that is based in 2 or more countries. They take advantage of the NIC’s cheap labour and large growth rate. For instance Toyota is one of the world’s leading car manufacturers and is the third largest in the world. Although based in Japan, Toyota produces most of its cars in its transplants in Georgetown, Kentucky, and Burnaston and Derbyshire.
